Update Concert Report From Sue Christenson For July 24th and July 25th, 1999
The Cryan' Shames performed Saturday, July 24, in Bolingbrook, IL in a
benefit for police officer Ray Browne. Fans combated
extreme heat to come and hear the band, which put together a stellar
performance in spite of heat indexes of nearly 110 degrees. Jim Pilster
donned shorts this weekend (nice legs Hooke!) while Tom Doody flew in from
California in a black shirt and black pants (whew!). No matter how hard we
try to train this Californian to Chicago weather and the heat...
At the concert in Chicago Ridge on Sunday, July 25, the band was nestled
inbetween Hawaiian dancers (the lead fire dancer actually burned his leg and
hand!) and radio host Steve Dahl's band. Jim Pilster sprayed water on fans
who were dealing with the heat (even though it was less humid on Sunday).
The sound system was good. Because of delays earlier in the day, all acts
were pushed up. The only unfortunate part of this was that Tom Doody had to
depart three-quarters of the way through the show, to catch his flight back
to sunny California. The show was completed in fine form and an additional
treat was provided by sax player Bob Frankich, who lent his talents to songs
such as "Vehicle" and other tunes.

Concerts for 1999...You bet!!!!, and a bunch of them! More will be posted in the Events section of this Homepage as they are firmed up.
James Fairs has completed his recording project and he has promised us full details soon and an update on his biorgraphy for the Homepage. The Staff here at the Homepage recieved a "Fairs Package" of his latest recording projects, we are still trying to catch our breath as they were FANTASTIC!!!!
Ron Brandt (The Fishin' Musician) has his next Adventure scheduled in Negril, Jamaica in June.
Rumors continue about the actual meaning of the lyrics to Ben Franklin's Almanac. Clues were placed in our guestbook and Ken Barber's Tribute to The Cryan' Shames Guestbook by two of the band members involved, but as of this writing the solution remains classified.
The Shames now face the problem of a possible comeback for The Muggy Flooz, and having to recruit it's members from the Homepage Staff, Fan Club, and Road Crew......Where's Jack Doody and Mike Hruby when you need them? (you don't want to hear the Homepage Staff sing!).
Jimmy P. Golf Report: The (2) hole-in-one golfer (and the one and only J.C.Hooke) is still working on his golf swing, and now has his score down in the low 80's according to a reliable inside source.
Scramble/Two-Bit Oyster Report: Scramble (the Shames's rhythm section) is still playing regularly at their usual spots. They reciently had a member change with Dave Rice now on keyboards, also they now have Tim Rutter from The CRYAN' SHAMES on Bass. We just heard from Sue Christenson, and J.C. himself that Jim Pilster's band The Two-Bit Oyster's will be playing at Andy's at 11 E. Hubbard (State and Hubbard) in Chicago on Sundays through June, and then maybe at the end of the summer. Time 8:30-12:30 PM . Jim said Dennis Tufano may do a guest appearance with them....Both groups are a must see!!!!
Sue Christenson (Sweet Sue) has been kept busy writing to all the Shames fans, and keeping everyone posted on the upcomming concert details, etc. Details from Sue.....Sue checked out the park in Matteson and says that it is a great location for
June 12. She reports that many of the Shames fans from other states will be coming to this gig. Sue's site visit was made in conjunction to her seeing her boyfriend Bill in neighboring Hazel Crest, where he is the director of the Hazel Crest Park District.
Here's a humorous tid-bit from A 1997 Concert.
The homepage staff was sitting at a picnic bench at Clarendon Hills prior to
the Shames's concert (and their arrival) when we saw Ronald McDonald making
his rounds amoung the little children, handing out candy, and doing a superb job
of being Ronald. When he got up to us (the homepage staff), he noticed our
Cryan' Shames t-shirts. He said he remembered them playing at the Cellar in the
1960's,and how he still enjoyed their music. We told him the Shames were playing
here that evening, and after talking with him for a brief moment,Ronald said
goodbye and started to get into his car.....Freezing that instant in
time......Jim Pilster drove up just as Ronald was backing up,and Jim commented
to us "Wow,I missed Ronald McDonald!!!"
