Another Rained Out Show!
Tuesday, 14-Sep-1999 16:25:29
We had been looking forward to last weekend's "3 gigs in 24 hours" schedule since it was booked
over 3 months ago. But now that it's over . . . I have to admit we're disappointed that the weather
literally took the wind out of our sails.
Saturday night was cut short due to the local police insisting "the stereo was too loud." Comparing
our live performance to a stereo recording is very flattering but the show was started late and by
the time we were about 1 hour into the 90 minute set, we had to say goodnight or go to jail. As
much as I like jail food, the other guys voted on ending the gig so we said good night without
finishing the set.
Then on Sunday, the Maryville Academy show went great until it started raining and they had to
pull the plug on us for insurance liability reasons just before we were about to do Up On The
Roof! So once again we were left without the satisfaction of completing a show and doing the most
popular set list selections. But we still had the Sunday evening Darien Fest headliner slot to fill
and were anxious to get in a complete performance. Apparently, it just wasn't going to happen. It
never really stopped raining all day Sunday and we were canceled from even starting a set in
Darien. So needless to say, we're chompin' at the bit to get back on stage and play a complete
show! I think the September 24th gig in Bolingbrook will satisfy that "Jones" we all have right
now. It's gonna be like finally having sex after being teased for the last 2 weeks. In other words .
. . ya better stand back . . . I don't know how big this thing's gonna get!

Here is a recent entry from The Cryan' Shames Guestbook, from Clark Besch who wrote the liner notes for Sony's Sugar and Spice A Collection.......
Comments: HI SUE, THE SHAMES AND ALL HALL OF SHAMES FANATICS. I AM NOT AN INTERNETTER
SO I HAVE JUST BEEN ON THE NET FOR HOURS AT A FRIEND'S HOUSE OVER THE HOLIDAY
READING ALL THE CHICAGO 60'S GROUPS WEB SITES AND ASSOCIATED ONES. WOW, I WAS
MESSAGE 99 OVER A YEAR AGO ON THIS SITE AND I CAN'T BELIEVE ALL THE STUFF I'VE SEEN AND
READ. I WAS EXTREMELY LUCKY TO HAVE BEEN A DRIVING FORCE BEHIND THE "SUGAR & SPICE"
SONY COLLECTION AS THEY WERE MY FAVE 60'S BAND WHEN I WAS GROWING UP. AS A RESULT OF
SOME PRODDING OF BOB IRWIN, HE TRIED TO GET SONY TO DO A SHAMES COLLECTION AND
WHEN HE GOT THE GO AHEAD, HE ASKED ME IF I WANTED TO DO THE LINER NOTES. I CONSIDER
IT TO THIS DAY AS A ONCE IN A LIFETIME OPPORTUNITY AND HAVE SINCE BEEN ABLE TO WORK
ON SUBSEQUENT CHICAGO AREA PROJECTS FOR SUNDAZED, KTEL AND VARESE VINTAGE. JUST
GOES TO SHOW YA WHAT AN AVID FAN CAN PULL OFF WHEN HE TRIES. ANYWAY, I HOPE THOSE
OF YOU WHO HAVE THE SHAMES CD ARE HAPPY WITH MY NOTES AND FOR ANYTHING I GOT
WRONG, I SINCERELY APOLOGIZE. I FINALLY GOT TO MEET THE CURRENT GROUP IN 1997 AND ALL
INCLUDING TOAD AND HOOK LIKED WHAT I WROTE AND THAT MADE ME FEEL GREAT. NOW, I SEE
THAT THEY'RE GOING TO RECORD A NEW CD. I'M HOPING IT WILL HAVE THE SAME FEEL OF THE
OLD SHAMES SONGS. ONE THING IS SURE, IT WILL HAVE GREAT HARMONIES AND GREAT
MUSICIANSHIP IF IT INCLUDES THE MEMBERS MENTIONED. I HAVE ALSO BEEN PRODDING BOB
IRWIN FOR THE ORIGINAL SHAMES ALBUMS ON SUNDAZED (MUCH AS WAS DONE WITH THE
BUCKINGHAMS ON SUNDAZED) TO BE RELEASED WITH BONUS TRACKS WHERE POSSIBLE. THESE
WOULD INCLUDE SUCH AS MR. UNRELIABLE (45 VERSION), YOU'RE GONNA LOSE THAT GIRL (EARLY
CHICAGO LP VERSION), ANY RADIO ADS, GEORGIA, BITS & PIECES, GREENBURG (MONO 45 VERSION),
I WAS LONELY WHEN (45 VERSION, MORE ASSOCIATION-LIKE THAN LP VERSION) AND POSSIBLY
MORE COLD ENDING VERSIONS OF LP RUNS-TOGETHERS AS WE GOT WITH 20TH SONG ON THE CD.
ALSO, THERE'S THE STILL AS YET UNRELEASED VERSION OF IT DON'T MATTER TO ME THAT WAS
LATER A BREAD HIT. IT WAS RECORDED AT SAME SESSION AS RAINMAKER, THUS MAKING IT
POSSIBLY THEIR LAST RECORDED TRACK PREVIOUS TO THE UPCOMING CD. ANYWAY, PLEASE WRITE
TO SUNDAZED WITH YOUR REQUESTS AND MAYBE WE CAN MOVE MORE MOUNTAINS TOGETHER.
BY THE WAY, YOU'LL BE HAPPY TO HEAR THAT THE IDES OF MARCH PARROT STUFF WILL BE NEXT
CHITOWN OFFERINGS FROM SUNDAZED. IT JUST KEEPS GETTIN' BETTER. GOOD LUCK ON THE NEW
CD AND AGAIN, A GREAT WEBSITE. IF ANYONE WOULD LIKE TO CONTACT ME, PLEASE WRITE TO
CLARK BESCH AT 5335 GREENWOOD, LINCOLN,NE 68504. I CAN'T PROMISE A REPLY, BUT I WILL TRY.
BY THE WAY, MY FAVE SHAMES SONG IS......I WANNA.....THE WAR....FIRST TRAIN TO....WE COULD
BE....GREENBUR....MR. UNRE...YOUNG BIRDS...SWEET GIR....UHHHH, IT COULD BE...............ALL OF EM.

Halloween Greetings from The Cryan Shames Here
Here's a recient guestbook entry from James Fairs:

Comments: i'm taking a break from a recording session (on "pine island, florida (?)) to thank everyone
for the great response and support for the new shames album. right from the time the word got out
about it , there have been numerous financial contributions, insightful suggestions, and offers for help
with everything from album covers to marketing. a list of the exceptional individuals who have
contributed would be too lengthy to include here, so let me just say thanks again. the work continues,
and we should have some interesting news in a few months. best to all ...james fairs
