RON'S CUSTOM GUITAR....

The latest news is an upcoming feature page "The Fishin' Musician Guitar" which will cover the custom build from the ground up of Ron Brandt's new Strat. It's body is being made from raw, unshaped Koa Tonewood, and the neck from Pau Ferro with various fish inlays on the fret board. To quote Ron "The pick ups fit like a standard Strat single coil footprint, but they are two single coils stacked to achieve the traditional quack of a Strat while using the bottom pick up for hum canceling instead of as a pick up". Ron anticipates the completion of his new axe by the next concert season.

BEN FRANKLIN'S ALMANAC, The controversy continues....

Further Clues in the mystery behind the lyrics to this legendary song have been provided by James Fairs and Tom Doody in the Shames's guest book. Well, the plot thickens as it possibly involves some of Dr. Stephen Hawking's theories per James, AND Dark Matter, Quarks and Borons (Primal Matter) per Prof. Toad. One thing for certain is that the final solution is gonna be out of this world! (and per Quantum Physics, the solution most likely will occur before the question, and disappear in a puff of logic.)

MORE ON THE FISHIN' MUSICIAN.........

Look for another feature page on Ron Brandt's "Fishing 2000 Escapades". Three of his great Millennium Adventures will be highlighted along with pics, and a stingray misadventure involving his brother Bobby. Ron reciently played the Odyssey cruise ship off Navy Pier for WLS Radio and lots of "On Air" personalities and staff.
Ron works with a trumpet player from Downer's Grove , Steve Frost, on The Odyssey Cruise Ship. Steve's daughter, Lauren, is a gifted child actress/singer and just completed the Barbara Streisand Timeless Tour playing young Barbara in the show.
Check Lauren's website at:Lauren Frost
Lauren's web site is maintained by Tom Schekel, The Buckingham's drummer. Ron's next fishing adventure is scheduled for February 2001.

    RON BRANDT.COM..........
You can now reach The Fishin' Musician at his NEW !!! Address

Ron's site features stories and pictures from his many adventures, recipes, music, along with a lot of fun and humor.

There were a lot of Cryan' Shames concerts this year with a Chicago Gold reunion April 8th at the Merriville Holiday Star Theater. Performing with The Cryan'Shames were the Buckinghams and The Ides of March.

Isaac Guillory's new CD has just been released "The Days of Forty Nine" which can be ordered from his web site at:Isaac Guillory CDs
We also heard from Jim Pilster that some of Isaac's concert videos can be purchased from his web site in the near future, more details to be announced.

Where on earth is James Fairs?. Well, Ron Brandt, our one and only Fishin' Musician almost "caught" James on his last fishing adventure with his brother Bobby. Ron and James were working out details to jam together which met with technical difficulties in the form of too many things happening at the same time. Ron's brother Bobby also plays in a band which was performing at the same time as James. We did ask James if he knew anything about the "Chad" controversy which was ongoing...James replied with a small chuckle.

Here's a report from Marlene O'Malley, our roving reporter in the Chicago area.

Last Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001 we saw Jimy Rogers and the Mauds at Rory's, and who should show up (with his drums) but Jimmy Pilster! He was invited to join them on stage for a couple of songs, and was able to add a little more percussion to the Mauds' already great sound. They mentioned that with Jimmy on stage with them, 4 of the 7 Chicago bands of the 60's were represented there - the Mauds, the Shames, the Flock (Jerry Smith) and the American Breed (Al Ciner). If you haven't seen the new band that Jimy Rogers put together, make a point of doing so - they are really good! And with the one and only JC Hooke as an added attraction, they couldn't miss! Jimmy says they've got quite a few shows lined up for the summer, and we can't wait!
I also got a few words from Jim about his trip to Florida, where he joined James Fairs and his band on stage. Jim says he always learns something when he plays with James, and he is truly a musician's musician. Jim said they're also working on the details for a benefit for Isaac Guillory's family.

    A JIMMY P. UPDATE 1/26/2001:

Things are starting to shape up for The Cryan' Shames 2001 concert season. This year's first concert will be on February 16th, 2001 at Rory's with the addition of The James(Fairs)Band and possibly Lenny Kerley. . More details to be announced.

    THE JAMES BAND UPDATE

James Fairs is revamping his web site and he is planning to sell his band's current CD with all proceeds to a fund for Isaac's children. They play a style of music that can best be described as 'techno-blues'. To visit James's web site click on logo below.

The Isaac Guillory Benefit has been postponed until March, 2001 due to technical difficulties. Jimmy also has a list of 2001 Shames concerts that he will be sending us soon, so stay tuned.

    A BLAST FROM THE PAST........

The Cryan' Shames 1970 Wild Goose Tour photos have just been posted , courtesy of The Cryan' Shames
    .
Here's a response from James Fairs to an entry on the Cryan' Shames's message board about the song "The Sun Through My Window", along with a Jimmy P. sighting in Florida:
    > I wrote "The Sun Through My Window" in 1967, andnever really "pitched" it to the Shames. We may haveperformed it once, although I have no definitivememory of this. A local Chicago band recorded thepiece in the late 60's, but I never actually heardtheir arrangement. Any midwesterner knows what's upwith the lyric: it's all about those fleeting burstsof sunlight which are just enough to get you throughthe gray winter days of our lives.
Meanwhile, I just finished playing a rockin' gig @the "Blue Parrot" in Sarasota,FL...and who should showup but the infamous JC HOOKE! He rocked thejoint!...THANKS DUDE!...and best to all...james

More 2001 concerts will be posted in the Events section of this Homepage as they are firmed up.

We just learned from Jim Pilster that Isaac Guillory passed away on December 31, 2000 after a long battle with cancer. A memorial page for Isaac with guest book can be visited at:Isaac Memorial Page . The Cryan' Shames are planning a benefit for Isaac with details to be announced later.
