This 2001 Cryan' Shames Concert features the Chicago area premiere of The James Band. The band's guitarist, singer, and song writer James Fairs has deep roots in the Chicagoland area, extending back to the original Cryan' Shames band, and this will be a special homecoming for him as well.
The James Band, based on the west coast of Florida, launched it's debut performance from Sarasota, Fl. on Saturday, January 6th., 2001. The show included vocals and material from drummer/ percussionist Casey Dean, as well as blues-tinged vocals from bassist Gregg Voorhees. James added his customery sky.
The soulful technology of the band includes looped samples of tablas, djembe drums, and other 'exotica' locked to Casey's drumming, along with octave-devided bass, as a rhythm foundation. The show is a mix of energized groove originals, with timely change-of-pace acoustic and slide guitar pieces mixed in.
James and Mr. Voorhees are accoplished studio producers, and that's clearly reflected in the live sound...a full frequency, high intensity TECHNO-BLUES mix. Digital recording sessions are now under way, and plans for the live show include multi-media images in support of the songs and the show.
